The feeling when you’re fresh out of the shower after a long day and you’ve done a little self-care with some shampoo, conditioning and spa. What a precious, reliving feeling is it not? Nothing really beats the feeling of knowing you’ve got smooth, healthy, shining hair.

And yet, most people don’t realize how important hair care is, how necessary it is to do hair care as often as skin care. How many times have you heard people say, ”I can’t go to bed unless I finish my skin care routine”, well, have you heard anyone say, ” oh no, I haven’t done my hair care routine yet”. The answer would be few, almost none. Even though we know that healthy hair could be a direct reflection of leading a healthy life we tend to neglect it. People tend to forget even the simplest of things in our life like drinking plenty of water, living a stress-free life, limiting the amount of heat we put on our hair or in fact even washing our hair regularly. These little things if followed could impact the health of our hair in a huge way.

When it comes to skincare, anyone could recommend you a bazillion products to keep your skin healthy, smooth and moisturized but when it comes to our hair, repetitive heating for styling it is not just in a way abusing our hair but also depleting it. Just like different skin types, dry, oily, combination types, the hairs got straight, curly, thick, thin and probably 50 more categories. To be able to recognize what your hair type is and what’s best for it is the first big step you need to accomplish. You could have a perfectly great hair care routine but without knowledge of your own hair type and what suits it best, the whole routine is in vain. Even the simplest of things such as when to wash your hair and how often depends on your hair type. If your hair gets oily quickly, it needs to be washed more often. Straight hair can get oily quickly. Very curly hair is not as oily and can be washed less often. Using a conditioner after you wash your hair might help, but that doesn’t make it healthier. Remember, hair is already dead, but conditioner can make it look better.

Not sure if its applicable to everyone but hair’s one of the first things people tend to notice in other people and healthy, shiny hair definitely sets a good impression, does it not? So allow me to give you a few basic tips on how to get that shining confident look with just your hair.

  • Washing: The main thing to understand here is the temperature with which you wash you hair. The right temperature could change a lot. Hot water washes off all the naturally generated oils by your hair leaving it without any protection and looking a little unhealthy, that’s why warm but almost cold water generally seems to be the best option for a hair wash. Cold water makes your hair look brighter and stronger. It seals the hair cuticle giving your hair a unique strength.

  • Drying: Drying by rubbing your hair with a towel is always a huge no. It damages your hair greatly, instead wrap a cotton t-shirt or cloth around it so it absorbs all the moisture seems like the best option. If you’re in a hurry and don’t have the time to air dry and need to use a dryer, remember to use a protective serum before applying the heat and maintain a distance of at least 20 cm.
  • Maintenance: Brushing your hair is of utmost importance. It must be done when it is completely dry. When you brush it, you stimulate the root, and you also distribute the natural fat that is found on the scalp, so that it can be distributed in the direction of the tips, which usually tend to dry out. Also, use hair products that you’ve tested out and seem best for your hair.

Those were just a few basic tips, these could differ from person to person.
Needless to say, hair is the most exposed part of the body, we can cover other body parts but hair is subjected to be more exposed to pollutants, chemicals, and dirt. it is necessary to take good care of it to maintain its health and look at it.

You might find so many tips and tricks on the internet saying that this is the best thing to do for your hair, but there’s a certain uniqueness to every person’s hair. This might be due to the environmental factors, the genetic factors, how they look after it and whatnot. But we need to recognize that with so many factors and so many differences, what might suit one might not suit the other. Finding the perfect hair care routine along with the best products to use is a journey in itself. This journey might include a few experiments and a few mishaps too but with the best luck, once you discover what suits you the most, you’ll not just be happy with the way your hair looks but the satisfaction of knowing that it is healthy too is an added bonus.
